Our Mission
Girls’ Haven seeks to provide a safe, nurturing environment for girls affected by physical, sexual or emotional abuse, neglect, exploitation, abandonment or severe family dysfunction.
Our Vision
To restore hope and provide healing; ONE Child at a time…ONE Life at a time…creating a WORLD of OPPORTUNITY for children at Girls’ Haven!
History
Founded in 1994, Girls’ Haven has a long history of providing a safe, stable, and nurturing home for girls in Southeast Texas. Remarkably, two of the original board members who helped establish Girls’ Haven continue to serve today, offering decades of leadership, vision, and commitment to our mission. Most recently, Girls’ Haven reached a major milestone with the move into our brand-new residential facility—the first in the state of Texas to be built from the ground up specifically as a General Residential Operation and group foster home. Guided by our dedicated board and alongside longtime donor and advocate Mr. Joe Penland, Sr., Girls’ Haven also helped create Ehrhart Charter School to ensure our girls had access to a small classroom environment, educators who understand their experiences, and a close partnership with Girls’ Haven staff. This innovative, wraparound model has proven successful, with Ehrhart earning the only A rating in the region in 2025, reflecting Girls’ Haven’s commitment to excellence in both care and education.
